Elsie MacKay

Elsie MacKay was a British actress and aviator who was known for her good looks, elegance and well-dressed manner.

She was also known for her love of aerobatics. Once asked a pilot she was flying with to loop the plane. During the loop her safety strap broke. Her body swung out the plane but she saved herself by gripping the bracing wires. When the pilot landed found her hands had been cut to the bone due to her fearsome grip of the wires.

It didn’t stope her later attempting to become the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic.

She died trying to attempt a transatlantic flight in 1928.
